News: Bitnami Secure Images Launch & What It Means for Free Tier Users

This post comes a bit late, as Bitnami Secure Images officially launched on August 28th, 2025. However, if you're using Bitnami charts on the free tier and are affected by these changes, this may help you navigate the transition.

Broadcom recently announced the update in their article:Broadcom introduces Bitnami Secure Images for production-ready containerized applications

Here are a few key highlights from the announcement:

"These free images are intended for development and only available on the “latest” tag."
"Additionally, the entire historical archive of Debian images and charts will be moved to a new location: Bitnami Legacy Registry. "

If you're impacted, you have a couple of options:

  1. Update your Helm repository from Bitnami and upgrade all your Bitnami deployments to use the new Secure Images. This may not be feasible in every situation, especially if you prefer not to use the “latest” tag.

  2. Manually switch to the Bitnami Legacy Registry for affected deployments and stateful image definitions. For example, update your
    image reference like this:

    image: docker.io/bitnamilegacy/postgresql:14.18.0-debian-12-r0

Simply replacing "bitnami" with "bitnamilegacy" allows you to continue using existing version tags without relying on “latest”.

These solutions should help maintain stability in your deployments while you evaluate long-term solutions.
